Homemade sugar syrup

This recipe makes a syrup with a light consistency. It blends perfectly with hot and cold drinks and does not leave any gritty texture. It's great to have this on hand in the fridge and use whenever needed.

For a thicker consistency, use a 2:1 ratio which just means 2 cups sugar and 1 cup water.

What are the uses of sugar syrup?

  • glaze for cake
  • glaze for fruit toppings
  • tea sweetener
  • coffee sweetener
  • smoothie sweetener
  • cocktail sweetener
  • pancake syrup
  • juice sweetener  (lemonade, orange, lime etc)

Here are some recipes where you can use sugar syrup

Sweet Tea Lychee

Watermelon Lychee Smoothie

Coconut Lychee Smoothie

How to store sugar syrup

After it has cooled, transfer to a clean glass jar with a tight cover.  Keep it in the fridge and it should be good for a maximum of 1 month. Don't keep it too long as it can get moldy.
